Progressives War On the Individual: The Insect, The Lazy, and The Untruth.

This is an accounting of the Progressives war on the Individual. The Insect: Edward O. Wilson is an entomologist, and when he was asked why Communism does not exist among humans his reply was interesting.

“What I like to say is that Karl Marx was right, socialism works, it is just that he had the wrong species. Why doesn’t it work in humans? Because we have reproductive independence, and we get maximum Darwinian fitness by looking after our own survival and having our own offspring. The great success of the social insects is that the success of the individual genes are invested in the success of the colony as a whole, and especially in the reproduction of the queen, and thus through her the reproduction of new colonies.

This was I think one of the main contributions of the idea of kin-selection. We now understand quite well why most species of social insects have sterile workers, and therefore can have communist-like systems. In which the colony is all, the individual is only a part of the colony, and the success of the whole community is what counts far above the success of the individual.

The behavior of the individual social insect evolved with reference to what it contributes to the community, whereas the genetic fitness of a human being depends on how well it can individually use the society. We have become insect-like only by extreme contractual arrangements.”

Let that sink in a bit. Extreme contractual arrangements. Progressivism can only be achieved by altering humanity. Turning us into insects. One argument Progressives will make regarding insects is that they have a large population so that must mean they are successful as a species. But, is that really success? Wilson goes on to answer whether humans are more murderous than animals. “No. The data from long-term behavioral studies of groups such as lions, hyena’s and chimpanzees show that the per capita murder-rate in animal-societies that do engage in murderous aggression is much higher than in human beings. And when you go down to ants, they are genuinely the most warlike of the animals, and the mortality-rates there of individuals and colonies can be truly staggering.” So, communist like systems have more murder per capita. Is it sinking in?

The Lazy: Kant wrote, “Laziness and cowardice are the reasons why such a large part of mankind gladly remain minors (welfare, government dependence) all their lives, long after nature has freed them from external guidance. They are the reasons why it is so easy for others to set themselves up as guardians (government planners, organizers, communists). It is so comfortable to be a minor. If I have a book that thinks for me (government), a pastor who acts as my conscience (politician), a physician who prescribes my diet (Mrs. Obama), and so on–then I have no need to exert myself.” Exert yourself? Why would you want to do that? Why have an original thought in your head free from the voices that tell you that to empower your government and politicans is to empower yourself? Live your life a lie and keep voting to empower your government.

Speaking of untruth and the individual – let me introduce you to Soren Kierkegaard who wrote in the Single Individual.

The Untruth: “There is a view of life which conceives that where the crowd is, there is also the truth, and that in truth itself there is need of having the crowd on its side. There is another view of life which conceives that wherever there is a crowd there is untruth, so that (to consider for a moment the extreme case), even if every individual, each for himself in private, were to be in possession of the truth, yet in case they were all to get together in a crowd—a crowd to which any decisive significance is attributed, a voting, noisy, audible crowd—untruth would at once be in evidence.” Hands Up America. The crowd has spoken and they represent – untruth? What?

Soren continues, “The falsehood first of all is the notion that the crowd does what in fact only the individual in the crowd does, though it be every individual. For ‘crowd’ is an abstraction and has no hands. …the falsehood is that the crowd had the ‘courage’ [to do something], for no one of the individuals was ever so cowardly as the crowd always is. For every individual who flees for refuge into the crowd, and so flees in cowardice from being an individual…, such a man contributes his own share of cowardliness to the cowardliness which we know as the ‘crowd’.—Take the highest example, think of Christ—and the whole human race, all the men that ever were born or are to be born. But let the situation be one that challenges the individual, requiring each one for himself to be alone with Him in a solitary place and as an individual to step up to Him and spit upon Him—the man never was born and never will be born with courage or insolence enough to do such a thing. This is untruth.”

You want to live an indolent, thoughtless, and untrue life? Keep voting for Progressives. It takes a village to raise a child they were not fortunate to abort. It takes a village to raise an adult who would rather someone else live their life than exert themselves with self-accountability and self-awareness. The truth resides in the individual, not the village.
