President Obama’s latest philosophical outburst to the successful and wealthy, “You didn’t get there on your own” exposes something a lot more disturbing than insulting the American business owner . In other words, ‘The Government or someone or something is responsible for who you are and where you are today’. It follows the Marxist ideal that society is responsible for man’s consciousness.
Not only does this ideology unravel the belief that man is made or unmade by himself, it also brings into question man’s significance unto himself. And, the only reason why one would promote the idea that every individual is not personally responsible for his life or character would be to bring the individual to heel before a centralized government planner.
James Allen wrote in As a Man Thinketh,
“As the plant springs from, and could not be without, the seed, so every act of man springs from the hidden seeds of thought and could not have appeared without them – … that man is the master of thought, the molder of character, and the maker and shaper of condition, environment, and Destiny.”
Essentially, every individual creates him or herself. It begins with Thought which develops character that unveils destiny resulting in success or failure depending upon the attention of thought.
Allen’s philosophy on Thought, Character, Destiny does nothing to promote the idea that a man is made by his government – his circumstances – his conditions – his President.
Of course, we have a President who believes that man is not the master of himself, not the creative power behind his success or the germ behind his failure and as such must be organized by a higher intellectual order and the collective society. He would have the weak minded believe that man is the victim of his circumstances and therefore can in no way be held personally accountable for his greatness or his faults.
Obama’s philosophy is for the lazy and apathetic. Character building is not easy and at times painful. But, hey who needs to work at anything when we have a President who says, ‘you don’t have to think or labor toward a decent character because your destiny is the result responsibility of soemone else.
I know what President Obama is thinking, ‘If we take away man’s belief in himself and the hidden powers within, we can begin to replace God and self-esteem with Government.’ But, this again goes against the essence of man’s individual development toward self-actualization. An individual with an understanding of what it means to develop character through good thoughts and right thinking would only vote for a President who says, ‘You are the reason for your success – your character – your destiny’.
